complaints in the press concerning the Queen's obvious delight in foreign opera and theatre resulted in the institution of annual theatricals performed by the British company of the actor Charles Kean; this work depicts the Queen and Prince Albert seated on the left, with the royal children on the floor before them; on the stage, Mrs Charles Kean is seen as Lady Macbeth, in the sleepwalking scene from Act V; the Queen was delighted by the play and attended the London performance on several occasions; commissioned by Queen Victoria for her Souvenir Album;
