Image description

A search party with Lieutenant Colonel Hans Bracher, on the right, and Armoury Administrator Robert Schiess, on the left, at the briefing on the missing plane on the Gauligletscher, taken on 22 November 1946 in the Hotel Rosenlaui near Meiringen. A US Air Force Dakota Douglas DC-3 with twelve persons crashed on November 19, 1946 on its way from Munich to Marseille over the Alps. Only after three days will the crashed plane be located on the Gauligletscher in the Haslital. Rescue teams start the rescue operation from Rosenlaui near Meiringen. After 13 hours they reach the machine. All passengers survived the crash and will be flown into the valley on November 24 by Swiss military pilots Victor Hug and Pista Hitz in “Fieseler Storch” aircraft.
