Satirical poem "The Twisting Coalition", printed by Robinson & Hernaman, Intelligence Office, Leeds. These verses relate to parliamentary politics before the 1832 Reform Bill. At this time Leeds did not have any MPs of its own and there were only two MPs representing the whole of Yorkshire. Of the names mentioned in the verses, Lord Milton was a Whig who was narrowly elected in 1807 (defeating Henry Lascelles, son of the Earl of Harewood), and John Marshall was the first mill owner to sit in parliament, being elected in 1826.
