Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) was the commander of an expedition during which he was hoping to chart and navigate a section of the Northwest Passage in the Canadian Artic; The expedition departed England in 1845 and the two ships upon which they were travelling became icebound in Victoria Strait near King William Island in the Canadian Arctic where the entire crew was lost; The search for the expedition, as documented by this poster, was launched by the admiralty in 1848 and while a few bodies and remanants of the exhibition have been found there no conclusice conclusion as to the fate of the expedition has been drawn;
