The Yelverton Case, involving a disputed marriage between Maria Teresa Longworth, a Catholic and Major William Charles Yelverton, a Protestant, was a celebrated 19th century law case in Dublin; cause celebre eventually resulting after Appeals by Major Yelverton to the House of Lords in London in the declaration of the first Catholic marriage in Ireland as invalid; dissatisfaction with the issues and outcome of the Longworth-Yelverton case eventually led to a change to the law on mixed marriages in Ireland in 1870;
