Final Destruction of Carthage by the Romans. Hasdrubal, who had escaped out of the city, humbly begged for life at the feet of Scipio, who granted the boon, but paraded his prisoner before the surviving Carthaginias, who had taken refuge in the temple of Aesculapius. Hasdrubal's wife came on to the roof of the temple which was now fiercely burning, and solemnly cursed her husband, after which she threw herself into the flames.
