Image description

Eduardo Pavez (L), Chilean director of the Liberation Condor Project, and Luis Jacome, from the zoo in Buenos Aires, hold two Condor latex puppets at the Yerba Loca Nature Sanctuary, 80 km east of Santiago, November 8, 2001. Eight Andean Condors will soon be released into their natural habitat after two months of human care as part of a bi-national program to reinsert Condors, that were born in captivity, into the region. The Condors must have no contact with humans whatsoever and are being kept inside a pen on a mountain plateau until they are familiarized with their natural habitat. The puppets are being used to familiarize with their own species and to coax the chicks to eat. REUTERS/Claudia Daut CD/SV
