Image description

Two metal fire buckets welded one inside the other, 2007 circa. Known as ‘the Basrah Bucket’, the buckets were kept in the Contingency Operating Base (COB) outside Basra, Iraq. They were damaged by shrapnel from a 107 mm rocket fired by insurgents at Basra Air Station in July 2007. From May to November 2007, the COB was subjected to around 300 rocket attacks. The buckets were presented to Captain (later Major) Paddy Shields, 1st Battalion The Irish Guards, by RQMS (T) Les McNaughton as a souvenir after Operation TELIC 10.
