Officers of B Coy, 4th Bn Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), 26 June 1916...

From left to right: 2/Lt A H Winn Sampson, 2/Lt W John Wood, Lt A A H Johnston, 2/Lt A F C Paxton, Capt O R F Johnston, Lt D Cutbush, MC, who was later killed at Arras on 10 Apr 1917, Lt H M Williams, who survived the war, and 2/Lt A Branch. With the exception of two of the officers, all of the men pictured were killed on 1 July 1916 or later died from wounds sustained that day, when the 4th Bn suffered heavy losses at Fricourt on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
