Italian sailors. The Italian merchant ship Giorgio Ohlsen hits a mine in the North Sea and sinks. The captain, Giovanni di Bella, organizes and directs the rescue of his men, a difficult operation because the disaster surprised the ship while most were asleep. When everything possible has been done for the salvation of others, the captain does not go down in the distant lifeboat, but stiffens on the bridge and sinks with the ship...
