The Massacre of the Theban Tyrants, BC 378. After enduring an oppression of three years from their tyrannical oligarchs, who were supported by the Spartans, a party of Thebans planned and executed a daring scheme to free themselves. Disguised as courtesans, they went to the house where the tyrants and their friends were feasting, and, being naturally greeted with a boisterous welcome, entered the banquet-room. The aristocrats, stupefied by their excesses, fell easy victims to the weapons suddenly produced by the supposed women; not one escaped, and Thebes was free again.
