Persians defeated by Russians at Aslanduz, 1 November 1812. At the peace of Tilsit in 1807 Napoleon and Alexander I divided the world between them, and this led to long wars between Russia and her neighbours, of which Persia was one. In the reign of Fath Ali Shah, the second of the Kajar Dynasty (1797-1834), much territory was lost by Persia. In 1812, when the Russian forces defeated him at Aslanduz, two British officers, Christie and Lindsay, were leading the Persian troops.
