Unknown Australian Official Photographer; / Australian Official Photograph / check format: Wilkins: 15-16 September 1917, Bean, Wilkins and Gullett visit Pozieres; "Met Gullett, Wilkins & Blanchard to go to Pozieres to get what relics we cld still find." The group took two lorries, Gullett, Wilkins and Bean went on to Amiens in his car and then to Pozieres. Wilkins noted as taking some pictures. On this day Hurley is at Zillebeke, Voormezeele and Dranoutre. AWM 38 3DRL diary 88, JG 24/10/13 Ministers caption: 'An Australian examines scattered Australian graves along the old German (OG1) line on the Pozieres battlefield. Twelve months earlier the area was a scene of heavy fighting. Pozieres, France 16 September 1917.' Twelve months before the area was a scene of heavy fighting and devastation; but when the fighting passed, the undergrowth flourished, and softened the appearance of utter desolation which marked the old battleground.
