Nur-ud-din Mohammad Salim, known by his imperial name Jahangir (1569-1627), fourth Mughal Emperor. The emperor Jahangir shooting an arrow through the head of Malilk Ambar. C19th version of the painting by Abu'l Hasan dated 1616; Jahangir was obsessed with Ambar; this allegorical painting shows the emperor standing atop the globe of the world and shooting an arrow through the severed head of Malik which is impaled on a pike; an owl sits on the head of Ambar symbolising darkness and evil.
